Model 1881

This rifle was John Marlin's answer to the new demand for repeating arms.    "...all ten shots can be fired ordinarily in SIX to SEVEN SECONDS, and by actual timing this has been done IN LESS THAN FIVE SECONDS."           - Marlin Fire Arms Co. catalog, 1888

Although this was Marlin's first repeater, by 1888 Marlin was internationally known and won the Australian Centennial Exposition award. This rifle features an octagon barrel with case hardened equipment and a shotgun-style buttstock. Original Marlin 1881 rifle stocks were varnished.
